The Circle and a Line

A scholar once came to a king's court,
A tough challenging riddle did he pose.
A picture did he show to the ministers,
and also to the great magicians and tricksters.

A Circle and within enclosed a Line,
'The one who shan't answer shall pay a fine'
'What is the question?' the courtiers asked.
'That is to decipher the figure placed.'

Lost were the courtiers, none came forth,
Until the king's son came to the throne.
He saw the figure and asked what happened.
After hearing he said, 'The picture should be framed.'

'The answer is easy', he said, to amazement,
'It is the relation between possibility and reality'.
The courtiers lay silent for it increased their puzzlement.
The people lay silent so did the nobility.

'It is the one line of reality,
In the infinite circle of possibility.'
The court broke into an instant applause,
For the answer was without any flaws.

The scholar did admit he was right.
He said the king's lad was bright.
So did the riddle end in joy,
For knowledge has no decoy.
