Gilgamesh & Enkidu

Long ago, along the banks of the river,
Ruled a wicked king named Gilgamesh.
Ruler he was of Babylonia,
The kingdom fell into distress.

Folks did pray, to Anu, the creator,
That someone save them from the king.
Anu did hear them, and decided their
Prayers to answer.

Deep in the hearts of the Jungle,
a miracle took place. A warm glow,
emitted beneath the tree,
And a fair man created.

Enkidu he was named by gods,
Destined to change the king,
Civilized in the jungle by gods,
He was trained to fight the mighty lord.

So did Enkidu develop, on seventh day,
from creation, he was trained enough to fight.
Atrocities, did he learn, of the king,
Hurt the gods deep and hard.

The swift-footed one went to Uruk,
Knocked down its gates and challenged the king,
The king heard this and grew in fury,
In full might did he come to fight.

Fourteen days they fought at the gates,
For gods and men to watch,
Fourteen days they battled on the earth,
Till Gilgamesh threw him down.

But Gilgamesh didn't kill him,
For in him he found a friend.
Enkidu, also glad, willingly became his friend,
And thus was the will of gods realized.
