Why do they associate me with the Shadows,
Why is it that I am always in the darkness,
Why are the names of mine in sorrow,
Where I stay, hope itself deserts the palace.
I am that which is there when uncertainty exists,
I am that which stays with you from the very beginning,
I am that which contains the un-numbered list,
The very heart of soul, I consume like the eternal void.
You are wrong, I attack in the broad daylight,
I come out in the open, you just close your eyes,
I am that which gives you sleepless nights,
I am the king of the harbingers that void the soul.
Slow I come, so slowly toward you.
Slow you see my approach, if you ever do,
It is my firm grasp that you ever rue,
I am the reason that your wings are clipped.
I am that which blinds you to happy moves,
In the endless plunge, I pull you towards doom,
The fight against me is the hardest you do,
Not all emerge victorious, most fall to gloom.
In many shapes and forms, do I come,
Blind you to the obvious, make you oblivious,
Reason and joy I snatch, making you glum,
That death itself is my lieutenant, the lesser of the evils.
I am the breaker of strong and stronger wills,
I tax your lives, a burden on the life and soul,
I am inevitable, the reason of life that chills,
Yet I am the unknown, the uncertainty of time.
I am the wrath of time, the rage of an age,
I bring all down, man and creation, a final fury,
I am the ambiguity, the inevitability and the cage,
I am the tallest mountain on your path.
I am formed yet formless, reasoned yet reasonless,
I am invisible yet visible, unheard yet heard.
I am the fairest of all, I am partisanless,
I am the cruelest of all, for all good you have I take.
Fight me, fight me and fight hard till you win,
Know, the hardest and longest battle of life, I shall be,
Slain me, joy, happiness and reason you shall gain,
I am the door to life, and the reason for life.
Fear me, for I am fear itself.
